IPL/Laser Hair Removal works by emitting pulses of intense light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and is converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the follicular cells responsible for growing new hair. Hair which is suitable for IPL/Laser Hair Removal will not grow back at all, while other hair may grow back weaker and lighter in colour. We generally call IPL, permanent hair reduction (not removal) because very light coloured hair is not effective. Either way here at Depskin we never mislead our clients into believing they will achieve unrealistic results.

IPL/Laser Hair Removal gives clients the freedom to not have to worry about the next wax, the growth of hair inbetween waxes, discomfort of shaving and regrowth and ingrown hairs. Not only will you have no ingrown hairs, but you will be hair free forever!

We have complimentary consultations; to determine how successful Laser/IPL is for your skin and hair colour. Generally the way to explain it is, if you have 80% dark hair on your lower leg, then 6-8 treatments later you will have 20% of hair there. This 20% was probably never dark enough to begin with. The great thing is the 20% is fluffy and not very noticable, so not a problem. If you are left with an amount of hair you would still like to get rid of, there are different options, we offer electrolysis (single or multi needle) or you can do maintenance IPL sessions every so often, maybe 1-2 a year at the very most, a session before holidays is a great way to keep them away for a long period of time. The other option is to go back to waxing regularly  and loofahing correctly, after about 6-8 (depending) waxes, the hair can topple over and die because they are so weak from all the IPL!

IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW: If you Laser /IPL fluffy hormonal  hair (face – lip, chin, neck, sideburns, tummy and breast) it will stimulate the follicle and make the hair worse. We have so many girls who have had Laser/ IPL on their face with other therapist’s who just randomly treated the hair and they are left with masses of thick growth. If hair on the face is has been thickened we will use IPL again as a stepping stone.
