Short answer is no. If you get a tan or use fake tan, electrolysis can still be done as we are putting a fine wire probe into the follicle and manually putting the current inside the follicle to kill the hair. The hair slides out dead. No plucking. That’s it.
With laser hair removal or IPL hair removal sun exposure does interfere. This is because the laser is shooting energy from the outside – in. So it sees everything beneath it, including a tan and fake tan. It is attracted to colour. The only thing we want it to see is the target hair. So the fairer the skin the better it works. Simple as that.
So when I treat with IPL with someone. Who is naturally darker skin, that’s okay we just turn the joules down a bit. The results can still be amazing if there is a contrast.
